Origin of Dr. Chelliah’s Music Ministry
Dr. Noah N. Chelliah was born into a Protestant Christian home. His father was a Protestant pastor/evangelist and served the Lord faithfully for 38 years and started several churches in India.
Having grown up in a Christian home, music always played a major role in Dr. Chelliah’s life. He began singing at the age of 7 and in spite of many obstacles such as lack of financial resources and lack of music teachers, he maintained his passion for music. So much so, he taught himself to play the Piano, Organ and Guitar. Although he will readily admit that he is no musical genius or even an accomplished musician, he enjoys playing these instruments and singing.
He also has been interested in electronics ever since he was a little boy. He often states that he really wanted to be an electrical engineer but through a series of events beyond his control… he calls “Divine intervention”…. it is indeed a fascinating story in itself…which hopefully he will narrate someday…he ended up in medical school… As you will find out later in this story, Dr. Chelliah’s passion for electronics was to play a major role in his music ministry.
For the rest of the story ask for the article “Why I Believe” by Dr. Noah N. Chelliah which can be emailed or mailed to you.
Even in medical school he organized a Duet and a Quartet and sang for 7 years in both groups. Although he wanted to be Baritone/Bass singer like Jim Reeves, according to him, “God in his wisdom wanted to keep me humble” and gave him a thin not- so- flattering tenor voice. But he practices regularly and dedicates his voice to the glory of God. He recorded and released a CD of 10 of his favorite gospel songs in 2002 and subsequently began giving solo Gospel music concerts at the request of some of his patients.
This is where his interest in electronics came to play a major role. Dr. Chelliah being a high-end audio enthusiast (high-end audio is the term used to refer to Audio Amplifiers, Speakers, CD players and Recorders which attempt to produce the very best sound, and by implication, very expensive!) was trying to design a high quality, compact PA system.
Dr. Chelliah always felt that the PA (Public Address) systems being used by most music performers were very large and heavy and yet produced just good sound not the very best sound. About 15 years ago, with the help of a world famous inventor Mr. Bob Carver, Dr. Chelliah put together a very sophisticated high powered high performance PA system in a small package. This PA system is unmatched in the PA systems currently available. You can learn more about Bob Carver and his revolutionary products by typing his name in the internet search engine. His latest speaker is our Deceptive Acoustics Ribbon speaker which can handle 900 watts. You can learn more about these at www.deceptiveacoustics.com
Dr. Chelliah put together a PA system utilizing his friend Bob’s inventions which were unmatched in quality and yet was the World’s smallest and yet the most powerful. This system as designed by Dr. Chelliah utilizing his friend Bob’s inventions can produce up to 900 watts for each channel of stereo and yet can fit into the trunk of a small car such as a small Toyota or the Ford Focus!! This system can be easily upgraded to produce 1800 watts, 3600 watts per channel or even 7200 watts per channel without substantially increasing the size of the system!!
Dr. Chelliah also was deeply interested in new electronic music technology from its infancy. He began experimenting with computer software controlled synthesizer based music performance system as early as 1985 or thereabouts.
He continued to experiment and refine his system. He spent literally tens of thousands of dollars testing different systems and finally settling on a system that he fine tuned to his needs. This system is so powerful and yet so flexible that it functions both as a sophisticated studio recording system for producing commercial quality CDs as well as a superb live performance system.
His system goes from being a very efficient and flexible music accompaniment system for live performance to a very sophisticated recording studio by the simple plugging in of a studio quality microphone and of course moving this very compact system into a a sound proof room. In fact the system is so compact that it can fit into the trunk of a small compact car and carried from place to place and can become a powerful portable recording studio as long as a very quiet room is available.
While he was working on his special PA system and perfecting his computer software driven, synthesizer based music accompaniment system, the Lord also worked a miracle to bring him in contact with a very talented musician from Texas that was both well trained in traditional music performance, (he plays the Tenor Saxophone and Piano) as well as music orchestration who also taught himself the electronic music production techniques. This is indeed a rare combination. He is so talented that he can mimic the nuances of playing conventional musical instrument such as a violin or a guitar by the skillful use of the of a synthesizer using the pitch bend wheel of the synthesizer etc. Although he was initially reluctant to work for Dr. Chelliah, after two years of perseverance by Dr. Chelliah, Mr. Don Carroll agreed to work for Dr. Chelliah in orchestrating accompaniment music. Since both of them share similar technology, it was easy to work together. Dr. Chelliah usually comes up with the idea for orchestration such as what instrument sounds should be used and what style of arrangement he wants done. Mr. Carroll can execute such directives flawlessly using his enormous musical performance skills. So far they have worked together over the last 15 years and have completed orchestral accompaniment for over 350 gospel songs. Most often, Dr. Chelliah prefers the Southern Gospel style although, Dr. Chelliah and Mr. Don Carroll have collaborated in Bluegrass gospel as well as classical styles. One such “classical” arrangement is “And Can It Be” which sounds like Mozart wrote it!!
Now Dr. Chelliah feels it was through God’s leading that various components of this project have come together and praises the Lord for His leading.
Being a cardiologist interested in helping people reverse heart disease, Dr. Chelliah also started another ministry in which he has been giving health talks throughout the U.S. and Canada. He often combines his Health Ministry with his Music Ministry.
In addition to his solo music ministry which he started 15 years ago, Dr. Chelliah also has a Trio Music Ministry called “The Rusty Chords Trio” and a Duet Music Ministry called Hearts In Song.
Dr. Chelliah states the following:“I aim to praise the Lord Jesus Christ with my music ministry. I do not charge any fee for my concerts. However I will gratefully accept free will offerings to defray my transportation costs. My repertoire consists of over 100 songs and hence each of my concerts is different. To schedule a Free concert at your church or community center, please contact me at the below given address or phone number:” You may request a solo concert, a duet concert or a trio concert.
